History
In the 1970's, the State Board of Education (SBE) authorized the development of four regional marine high schools in Connecticut. Two such schools have been built. New Haven's Sound School in 1980 and Bridgeport's Aquaculture School in 1993.
In 1998 three school districts in Southeastern Connecticut proposed other Aquaculture Schools. Then Commissioner of Education Ted Sergo requested that the three districts work with LEARN to submit one proposal. The three districts agreed and have been working with LEARN since 1999 and included a fourth district at that time. A Magnet School Operations Plan was submitted in December of 2000 with a final revision that included a full day curriculum in May of 2001. The Governance Committee of the Marine Science High School of Southeastern Connecticut has been researching sites since 2000.
